Conover, NC (September 18, 2000) - Jarrett / Favre Motorsports announced today that Rayovac Corporation will not be extending their primary sponsorship of Jason Jarrett's #11 Chevrolets into the 2001 Busch Series season.
According to Executive Vice President Merrell Tomlin, "The position taken by Rayovac not to continue as the primary sponsor of the #11 Jarrett / Favre Motorsports team in 2001 was a very difficult decision to make. Over the past two years we have come to appreciate our relationship with this race team and the entire Jarrett family," Tomlin said. "And we truly believe that Jason Jarrett is one of NASCAR's future stars.
"Our decision was based on a corporate directive to pursue other marketing opportunities on a more global basis," he added. "We are however, looking at a variety of options that will allow us to continue our relationship with this race team in a lesser capacity."
Jarrett, the son of defending Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett and grandson of NASCAR Hall-of-Famer Ned Jarrett, struggled early on during his first full season of Busch Series competition, enduring a change of crew chief and car make, as well as stepping out of the car for a pair of races in favor of veteran driver Hut Stricklin. The young team kicked into gear when Jarrett returned to the car with a solid run in Indianapolis, followed by a 22nd-place finish in his summer rematch with Bristol and a 6th-place starting spot on the grid in Richmond last week.
"Although it's disappointing that Rayovac won't return in a primary role next year, I have to commend them on the level of support they gave to us this season," Jarrett said. "Without question, it's the best corporate relationship we've ever had here at Jarrett / Favre because it extended so much further than just the contract. We had a tremendous off-track program and you really felt they (Rayovac) were actually part of the team, rather than just our sponsor," he added. "As a driver you really can't ask for more than they gave."
Jarrett returns to Dover for the fourth in a seven-race series of "Rematch" races during the stretch run, and is looking forward to taking on the "Monster Mile" again. "We've endured a lot this season and there were a handful of tracks that got the best of us in the spring," he said. "Since then, this team has come a long, long way, and performances like the ones we had on our returns to Bristol and Richmond are the proof.
"We intend to run the Busch Series in 2001, and we've built the kind of momentum that makes me want to go right from Homestead to Daytona," Jarrett said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to find a corporate partner that will join us and reap the rewards of the program that Rayovac helped us build."
