Great Clips' successful Busch Series Motorsports marketing program prompts two-year extension with Akins Motorsports.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 12, 2003) - Great Clips, Inc., one of America's top-50 franchisers, is pleased to announce a two-year contract extension with Akins Motorsports as primary sponsor of the No. 38 Great Clips Ford Taurus in the NASCAR Busch Series.
In addition, Great Clips is extending its partnership with Performance PR Plus, the company currently responsible for implementing Great Clips' public relations and marketing initiatives for its NASCAR Busch Series program with driver Kasey Kahne.
Through its affiliation with NASCAR, Great Clips has assembled successful co-marketing programs with Hasbro and the Ford Motor Company. In addition, Great Clips continues to develop a variety of at-track promotions including an upcoming website contest with Atlanta Motor Speedway, race festivals, showcar appearances and complimentary haircuts to fans, drivers, crewmembers and media personnel on a frequent basis.
Only halfway through the 2003 NASCAR season, Great Clips has received more than $4.5 million worth of media exposure according to the Joyce Julius reports. In addition, increased brand awareness has been realized through media placements on television, web sites and in highly circulated publications such as The Sporting News, Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Indianapolis Star, The Washington Times, Charlotte Observer, Kansas City Star and Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
"Year after year our NASCAR program continues to improve - both in performance and marketing value," said Great Clips Vice President of Marketing Terri Miller. "The NASCAR Busch Series continues to deliver substantial sponsor value both to our brand and to our 800 franchisees and nearly 2000 salons. The combination of Ford Racing and Akins Motorsports has really driven our success to a new level. We are looking forward to an exciting 2004 and 2005 season!"
Akins Motorsports team owners, Brad Akins and Doug Stringer, concur with Miller on the extension and look forward to a lasting relationship with Great Clips.
"We are really glad to be here with Great Clips and to have another two years with great people, great products and great franchisees," said Akins. "Kasey is continuing to get more experience and we should finish the year on a strong note. Next year there shouldn't be any newness, so we will be able to hit the ground running."
"On behalf of everyone at Akins Motorsports, we are ecstatic that Great Clips has extended its partnership with our organization for an additional two years," said Stringer. "Our association in the NASCAR Busch Series has been a good fit for both Akins Motorsports and Great Clips, and we anticipate continued success over the next two seasons."
Kahne is currently 12th in the NASCAR Busch Series driver points with one top-five and eight top-10 finishes. He has qualified in the top 10 in 13 of the 22 races this season with two runner-up Bud Pole positions.
"I am thrilled that Great Clips has agreed to support this race team for another two seasons," said Kahne. "I couldn't ask for a more encouraging sponsor than Great Clips who supports this team both on and off the track. The NASCAR Busch Series doesn't get the same recognition that the Winston Cup Series does; however, with sponsors like Great Clips on board, the Busch Series is second-to-none. The company is definitely a sponsor that extends its motorsports' programs beyond the racetrack, and I am very fortunate to be a part of it."
