ST. LOUIS (June 20, 2000) - The last time Budweiser driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. raced at New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS), in July of 1999, he was making his second NASCAR Winston Cup start. Since that race, Earnhardt Jr. has become one of the sport's hottest drivers. Although fans will have to wait until next month for him to return to NHIS, Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 8 Budweiser car already has been reunited with the track - on a new 16-ounce Budweiser can, available nationwide through August.
Budweiser - the Official Beer of NASCAR and NHIS - has produced the can as part of a four-can collector series commemorating Earnhardt Jr.'s NASCAR Winston Cup rookie season. The cans in the series feature one of four NASCAR tracks, the track's official logo and an Earnhardt Jr.-themed image.
"With two Winston Cup victories, a win in The Winston and a Bud Pole in Charlotte, Dale Jr.'s rookie season has exceeded our wildest expectations," said Dan Hoffmann, director of Budweiser marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "Like the Budweiser team's on-track performance, the commemorative can series has been a tremendous success. The cans give fans a way to share in the excitement and will continue to help drive Budweiser sales throughout the Summer and Fall."
The NHIS-themed can showcases New England's largest sports venue and one of the Northeast's premier motorsports facilities, along with Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 8 Budweiser car. Earnhardt Jr.'s signature and the words "2000 Winston Cup - Rookie Season" also appear on the can. It has been released in advance of the Jiffy Lube 300, July 9 at NHIS.
The first can in the series featured Daytona International Speedway and an image of Earnhardt Jr. The second can showcased Texas Motor Speedway and Earnhardt Jr.'s number eight. The final track to be featured in the Earnhardt Jr. Budweiser can series is Phoenix International Raceway. It will be available September through November.
"It's been a pretty wild ride since last year's race at Loudon, and sometimes it's hard to believe how far our team has come," said Earnhardt Jr. "Our last Budweiser can had Texas (Motor Speedway) on it and that's where we got our first win. Maybe this new can will help us get to Victory Lane in Loudon!"
