Australian-owned Formula 1 Team Minardi was this morning presented with the Boxing Kangaroo battle flag at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Melbourne born, Paul Stoddart, owner of Team Minardi, received the framed Boxing Kangaroo flag, marking the Australian?s first Formula One race. The presentation was made by Craig McLatchey, Secretary General of the Australian Olympic Committee, custodians of the Boxing Kangaroo.

?Paul Stoddart exemplifies the Aussie determination and all Australia is behind him in his first season.?, said Mr McLatchey.

He went on to say, ?The Boxing Kangaroo is the battle flag of Australian sport is a symbol of Australia?s fighting spirit and our determination to take on the world.?

Stoddart, a Boxing Kangaroo fan, said, ?This will take pride of place in the Team Headquarters?, as he waved the Boxing Kangaroo.

The Boxing Kangaroo will now travel with Team Minardi sounding a message to the world.

The Boxing Kangaroo is Australia?s sporting battle flag. Since 1983, when the Australia II syndicate triumphantly won the America?s Cup, Australian fans have adopted the Boxing Kangaroo at sporting events around the world to signal their support for our Australian sports heroes.

The tradition continues today with Paul Stoddart and Team Minardi.
