CENTENNIAL, Colo. (December 5, 2001) -- B&M Racing & Performance Products LLC, makers of top quality shifters, torque converters, transmissions and SuperCoolers, and SCCA Pro Racing announced today the creation of the B&M Holeshot Award for the 2002 SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge Touring Car Championship.
B&M will award the driver advancing the most positions on the first lap from his or her starting position $250 in cash at each race. The Speedvision World Challenge Championships are the only professional series in America utilizing the exciting standing-start format.
"Our products are designed to help get horsepower to the road, and there's nothing in road racing that better exhibits that than the standing start of a Speedvision Touring Car race," said Bob Ritzman, Vice President of Marketing, B&M Racing & Performance Products LLC. "We're excited to track the biggest movers on the opening lap of this year's races with the B&M Holeshot Award."
"Since we went to the standing start format in our World Challenge events, we've received a lot of positive feedback from competitors and fans alike," said Mitch Wright, Vice President and General Manager, SCCA Pro Racing Ltd. "Our start format creates a perfect venue for B&M to become more involved with the program and continue their marketing efforts toward our younger audience, awarding the driver who not only gets a great launch when the lights go off, but has their act together on the entire first lap."
B&M will also continue its contingency program for teams utilizing its equipment in the Speedvision GT Championship.
The SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge Championships are North America's top production-based road racing series. Split into two, separate classes and 50-minute races (GT and Touring Car), the series is geared toward creating an exciting product for racing fans, both at the track and watching television, that is also easy to relate with and understand.
The 2002 season is kicked off in conjunction with the 50th Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring at Sebring International Raceway, March 13-15.
