Mike Strevel resigned as General Manager of the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series after a four year term.
In Strevel's words:
This is a hard story to write but it is with much sadness that I must resign from the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series. There is a good reason for this and I will explain, but I would like to know that I have loved my four years with AVSS and my wife Cathie has as well.
On Wednesday February 25 I will start my new career at Berlin Raceway in Marne MI. I will be the Race Operations Coordinator with also responsibilities to be an Account Executive for Berlin Raceway. This 7/16 mile oval in Marne MI is promoted by West Michigan Whitecaps Racing and has seen incredible growth at the legendary Grand Rapids area oval. The position opened up this winter and after much thought it was an opportunity that I could not pass up. A full time position in the sport that I have loved my entire life at a track that I have grown up at is too great an opportunity to not attempt.
I have been in contact with both Tony Nosal and Mark Carl to help with the transition with AVSS. I will assist them with any needs throughout the changes. I deeply regret having to do this to AVSS but do feel that the group is so strong and popular that they will continue to grow.
The AVSS season will start April 24-25 with the opener at Baer Field. The AVSS cars will appear at Berlin Raceway twice the first being June 26 and September 11 the finale for AVSS. I am happy that I will be able to see my AVSS family at least on those two visits and hope to see everyone at several other races over the season.
The four years with AVSS have been some of my most memorable in my 15-year announcing career. The trips, the food, the story telling, the friendships made and all of the incredible racing action made for a great ride. The relationships I have developed with drivers, car owners, promoters and sponsors are some that I will treasure always and I know Cathie feels the same way. I want to thank Gary Fedewa, Jeff Bloom, Bill Tyler, Dennis Venia and Don Lambert the AVSS board for their great support and will always feel honored that I was a part of the AVSS series for these four great seasons. A huge thank you to Tony Nosal, Mark and Marie Carl, Mark Brochu, Dale Rainey and Duane Turner for all of your help and support.
The AVSS year will go on strongly and I wish everyone the best as we look forward to the 2004 season. I once again say thank you and good luck and see you all at the races soon.
