DUBLIN, Ohio (May 24, 2001) - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, is celebrating 40 Years of Racing this season with seven events during the most comprehensive schedule in the history of the racetrack.
The ConAgra Foods U.S Road Racing Classic, June 8-10, kicks off the racing season at the 2.4-mile, 15-turn permanent road course. The headlining Grand American Rolex Sports Cars Series features exotic open-cockpit SportsRacing Prototypes, production-based GT and GTS machines and American GT "muscle cars." This is the type of racing for which Mid-Ohio was originally intended. Additional racing includes the Grand-Am Cup, U.S. F2000 National Championship, American City Racing League and SCCA Pro Spec Racer Series.
June 8-10 is also Fan Appreciation Weekend. Spectators can enter to win pace car rides, seats in the "esses" announcer's booth, a VIP trackside luncheon or a chance to wave the green flag to start one of the weekend's races.
"Our 40th Year of Racing is going to be Mid-Ohio's busiest ever," Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course President Michelle Trueman Gajoch said. "As part of our season long celebration we're giving fans a chance to win once-in-a-lifetime prizes during our Fan Appreciation Weekend. Plus, with a seventh event added for the first time ever, the on-track action this season features something for everyone."
The Sprint Vintage Grand Prix, June 22-24, is a tribute to motorsports history. The weekend features 13 races including nine SVRA Group Races, an IMSA GTP Reunion Race and a Porsche Invitational Race. Off-track attractions include the Third Annual British Car Showdown on Saturday and the annual Concours d'Elegance featuring Porsche on Sunday.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 13-15, is one of the nation's largest tributes to motorcycling history. More than 20 classes of classic two wheelers and modern motorcycles rumble around the track, while vintage dirt bikes tear up the terrain during a vintage motocross competition. A bike show, swap meet, expert seminars and a motorcycle and memorabilia auction provide a backdrop to the on-track action.
Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire screams into town July 20-22. Some of the world's top riders face off in two Wiseco Superbike 100 main events, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Additional action includes the 600 SuperSport, 750 SuperSport, 250 Grand Prix and Formula Xtreme classes. Fans can also take a lap around the track on their motorcycle in the 11th Annual Mid-Ohio Dealer Ride.
The Miller Lite 200 features the CART FedEx Championship Series during Mid-Ohio's premier event, August 9-12. Drivers such as Andretti, Brack, Castroneves, de Ferran, Franchitti, Papis, Tracy and Vasser will battle at speeds approaching 200 mph in their powerful Champ Cars. Other races include the Dayton Indy Lights Championship, Barber Dodge Pro Series, U.S. F2000 National Championship and American City Racing League.
The American Le Mans Series makes its Mid-Ohio debut and the Trans-Am Series returns to the competitive circuit during the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio, August 24-26. This event is part of the NeOhio Region SCCA National and is the newest addition to the spectator schedule. The American Le Mans Series and Trans-Am Series races will happen on Saturday, August 25, and the NeOhio Region SCCA National races will take place on Sunday, August 26.
The season closes with the Valvoline RunoffsAE, September 17-23. Nearly 700 amateur drivers will battle in twenty-lap races for SCCA National Championship titles. This weeklong motorsports classic features 24 classes with everything from formula machines to showroom stock automobiles.
New this year is the Advanced Ticket Pricing offering race fans up to 20 percent off select race tickets purchased by the day prior to the start of each event. Mid-Ohio All Access Season Passes are also on sale now for $250 and grant fans access to all seven spectator events.
