Edoardo Piscopo set for 2010 AutoGP finale at Monza
Edoardo Piscopo experienced alternate fortunes in Navarra, on the latest round of the 2010 AutoGP Championship. The Rome-based driver, running aboard the DAMS team's Lola, scored a really valuable second-place finish at the end of Race 1, after having cruised to a front row spot in qualifying. He kept behind Romain Grosjean, his main opponent in standings. On Race 2 though, Edoardo lost ground due to a drive-through penalty for a contact in the earliest stages, while the Frenchman ended up winning. Having clocked the fastest lap of the day (worth an additional point) he's now trailing the lead by 1 length.
AutoGP is set for the final round of 2010 this weekend, at Monza. After having proved he can be a legitimate threat for title, Edoardo will be back on the same track that hosted his really positive GP2 Main Series debut earlier this month. Edoardo Piscopo
"The weekend has been off to a great start, as I missed a chance for the pole just because I took the checkered flag early, on an improving track. I played my cards against Grosjean on Race 1, while due to a slight mistake I had to focus on the fastest lap. Both me and Romain had a clear track, and it's been like a long qualifying session. Eventually, I managed to win the battle.
"Before the race at Navarra I thought Grosjean would have been almost unbeatable. Then, racing against him helped me to grow a lot, and having competed at Monza has given me a hand too. I'm still one of the least experienced drivers of the championship with such powerful cars. At Monza we'll be fighting again, and new variables will be featured, like the comeback of Giorgio Pantano. We'll do our best since qualifying and Race 1"
