For the Austrian Zele-Racing team the long winterbreak is finally over. After two years in the World Series by Nissan the team is turning towards the "renewed" Superfund Euro3000 championship. "We are working on the new project for a long time now", says Teamprincipal Michael Zele. The championship has gained a lot of attractivity and status since the investment-leader Superfund took over the "steering wheel".
Teamprincipal Michael Zele: "To decide for the Superfund Euro3000-championship, was the right move. Although the Nissan World Series, in which we made up some remarkable results (3rd place in Zolder by Norbert Siedler), until now, from the sporting point of view, showed one of the high standards, from the business point of view, it was just impossible for us to compete in this championship. There was no TV and media presence in the german speaking countries. I am very pleased, that, although we made this change, our sponsors are nevertheless supporting us. The cooperation with Superfund and Remus is getting on for the third season in a row and this makes me optimistic for our plans in the future."
With the support of Superfund it will come to positive changes on the TV-sector. In 2004 the Euro3000 races are going to be broadcasted live or Recorded to the prime times in Germany, as well as in Austria. All race cars competing in the Superfund Euro3000 have the same chassis, made by the british manufacturer Lola. Zytek is supplying the 470hp strong 3,0 litre V8-engine. The gearbox is 5-speed sequential and the extra-wide slicks tyres will be supplied once more by Avon.
For the young-blood race drivers the series gained attractivness. The winners of the past years (e.g. Felipe Massa - Sauber-F1, Gianmaria Bruni - Minardi-F1 and Augusto Farfus - Alfa works driver) made their way and thanks to Superfund more than 180.000,- Euro prize-money is waiting for the drivers scoringpodium positions. Besides the champion is awarded with the FIA-superlicence for Formula 1!
Ther is no final drivers constellation in the Zele-Racing team yet, but the negotiations are running at full steam. Teamprincipal Michael Zele: "My goal is to get an austrian driver into the team. There are two characteristics a race driver has to bring in: speed and ambition. Our aim for 2004 is nothing else but the championship title. On the technical sector I completely trust our chiefengineer Harvey Spencer. In combination with the right driver we will regularly appear in the top ten."
