Russian anthem sounds over the Europe
Russian pilot won Formula 3000 race for the first time in motorsport history. Vitaly Petrov outstripped all his rivals in Hungaroring and wrote his name in the Golden Book of Russian sport achievements.
Euroseries 3000 fourth week-end was held on Hungaroring near Budapest. This circuit is considered to be hard for drivers and particularly for overtaking. For Vitaly Petrov (21) it was first visit to Eastern European racetrack and he began qualifying rather calm, focused on learning and car setup. Euronova driver set 7th time.
Nevertheless, he could do some outstanding overtaking maneuvers and rose up to 2nd position during Race 1. Just a few laps to the finish Vitaly's progress was interrupted by brake failure. He couldn't keep his Lola under control and went off to the gravel. After such a collision 7th position was the maximum result for Petrov.
Race 2 was far more successful for young Russian. Vitaly started from first row and became a leader at lap 2. Up to the finish he kept race under control and win more than 10 seconds - which is rare thing for Euroseries 3000. "Vyborg Rocket's" win open a new page for the whole national and world motorsport. Never before Russians have achieved a victory in prestigious formulae championships. Petrov's brilliant result in Hungary heads him to many-years contract with strong sponsor, whose name will be revealed in the nearest future.
Vitaly Petrov, Euronova driver: "It's a pity, that first race was not successful for me. I was very close to first win, but couldn't take it because of brakes failure. As for second race - my car's setup was very good, I became a leader at the beginning and than just drove at the maximum, controlling the race. Win is always a beautiful filling, and it is more welcome to beat rivals in such a strong series as Euroseries 3000".
