BONANOMI UNSTOPPABLE IN RACE 2
ONIDI AND CRESTANI ON THE PODIUM
Marco Bonanomi didn't need much time to revenge on the bad luck that forced him to withdraw in Valencia's first race. The italian driver, indeed, managed to clinch a great victory in the second race, the best way to say thank you to the FMSI team, whose mechanics worked hard during the night to fix his car with a spare engine.
Bonanomi started well from pole position and immediately tried to build a gap pushing hard in the first laps.
Behind him, Fabio Onidi did the usual great start, passing from 4th to 2nd squeezing his car between a slow starting Will Bratt and Fabrizio Crestani. There was a slight touch between Onidi and Bratt, wich forced the brit to go on the grass losing ground until the sixth place. The race 1 winner had some damage from the contact and a bad feeling with his car's brakes, so he didn't manage to recover.
Bratt was passed also by Rodolfo Gonzalez and Edoardo Piscopo, with a good start from the Venezuelan driver that allowed him to overtake the italian. The two engaged a fair and close fight that was interrupted on lap 11, wen Piscopo went back to the pits with a loose anti-roll bar. He came back into the race with a 2 laps gap, just to increase his experience. At the front, Bonanomi's race pace was a low 1'25", something that the others simply couldn't match. So the positions settled down early, with Marco in front of Onidi by 4" and Crestani 3rd with a similar gap to Fabio.
In the meantime, the best battle was the one beetween Francesco Dracone and Juan Carlos Sistos for 7th place. The mexican started 8th as he let his engine stop in the warm-up lap, and then tried to regain his starting seventh place throughout the whole race. The gap beetween the two was as low as 0"4, but the italian didn't feel the pressure and managed to keep his position until the checkered flag.
The race ended with Bonanomi on the top spot, Onidi second and Crestani third. With this result, the fight for the title becomes even closer, with three drivers in only 5 points.
Marco Bonanomi: "That's what I wanted. The car was perfect and I knew that, without yesterday's bad luck, I could be that fast. At the start I was pushing a lot, partly because I was a bit angry for yesterday's race, and mainly because I wanted the extra point granted by the fastest lap. I want to dedicate this win to my father, who will stay in a hospital for more than one month due to a motorcycle accident, and to the team, they worked all night to fix my car".
Fabio Onidi: "I would have loved doing a better race, fighting with Bonanomi, but it was impossible. I managed a great started, but touching Bratt I damaged my steering. With too much understeer, I couldn't match Marco's pace, but I can be satisfied anyway."
Fabrizio Crestani: "With the team we are working in the right direction to set-up the car as I want it. Today was already much better than in race 1, so I hope that in this afternoon's race we will do another step forward".
