SECOND WIN IN A ROW FOR BRATT
ONIDI IS THE NEW SERIES LEADER
There's a clear message coming from Will Bratt in Valencia: who wants the title will also have to face him. After his win in Zolder and this morning's pole position (wich grants him an extra point in the standings), the brit managed to win also the first of the three spanish races.
A great victory, built lap after lap after a strong fight with Fabio Onidi. The FMSI pilot, author of a masterly start in wich he gained two positions, immediately sticked himself to the tail of Bratt's car, and stayed there for the whole race. The two started lapping on the 1'25"5 pace, slowly gaining ground on the rest of the pack. When they slowed down a bit, after passing the first half of the race, they were too far for the others to reach them. Onidi tried to keep up the pressure hoping in Bratt making a mistake, but at the end he had to surrender. Anyway he can be happy, as he is the new leader in the drivers standings, thanks also to an unlucky Marco Bonanomi. The italian driver had clutch problems wich costed him a slow start and, only a lap after, forced him to stop on the track. So, the struggle for 3rd position was beetween Fabrizio Crestani and the newcomer Edoardo Piscopo. Also this fight lasted from first to last lap, with Piscopo keeping up the pressure on a wonderful Crestani, who managed avoiding any mistake and came third. Behind them Rodolfo Gonzalez's race was badly influenced by the same problems he had in qualifying, while Juan Carlos Sistos was 6th after a mistakeless race. Bad luck for Francesco Dracone, who came in the pits after 15 laps. The team is examining the car to find the reason of this withdrawal.
Will Bratt: "It was a really tough race, because I had a lot of pressure from Fabio. I tried to gain ground but as soon as I was increasing the pace, the car started sliding so I had to slow down a bit. Now, with the last results, I know I can race for the title, there are five more races and anything can happen".
Fabio Onidi: I tried hard nearly until the end, also because, due to a radio malfunction, I wasn't aware of Bonanomi's withdrawal. Maybe I was a bit faster than Will, but he didn't do any mistake and deserves this win. Passing him would have been too risky here, so I decided to think to the championship. I'm the leader now, and even if I know that there are a lot of races to go, I'm happy that I have some points of advantage".
Fabrizio Crestani: "I'm happy about the result, not about the race. The car was sliding way too much, it was a completely different car from today's qualifying and I don't know why. We will have to work hard so that this won't happen anymore".
