Team Draco storms to Nürburgring podium and takes 2nd place with Augusto Farfus.
The Italian team Draco took a wonderful 2nd place in the opener round of the Euro 3000 Series at Nürburgring circuit, today. Having qualified respectively 4th and 6th on the grid on Friday, Farfus and Heidfeld were hoping to gain some positions during the 31 laps and earn as much points in the drivers and teams' classification as possible.
Augusto Farfus, who was starting from the 2nd row, had a good start and gained the 2nd position that he was able to manage until the chequered flag. He drove an excellent race without committing any mistake and keeping an impressive rhythm, thanks also to a perfect car, that permitted him to sign the fastest time of the race in 1:51.507. During the warm-up session he set the fastest time, too.
German team mate Sven Heidfeld was looking forward to driving his first ever F.3000 race and did not disappoint the expectation with a good start. Then he entered in touch with Del Monte at Curve Bielstein which damaged his Lola. He was forced to enter the box where the guy of Team Draco substituted the pushrod and regained the track with a delay of 7 laps. In spite of this Sven pushed a lot trying to reduce his gap and signed a series of fast lap times.
Sven Heidfeld (car #8) - DNF "I'm a little bit disappointed for what happened during the race. I had a good start and I was in a good position since the first lap, but then I heard a car that pushed me and induced me to spin damaging my suspension. I was forced to enter pit lane and stop at my box where the team made a fantastic job and changed the pushrod of my car. Of course I spend a lot of time in the box and when I regain the track I had a gap of 7 laps. It was very difficult to finish the race because I had a lot of problems with the brakes, the car was not more well balanced. It's a pity because during the warm up I set the 3rd fastest time and we had a good set up ".
Augusto Farfus Junior (car #7) - P2 "I'm happy and quite satisfied, I think we have began in the right way. After a mixed fortune and strange weekend race we have managed to come out very well. I'm very confident for the next races and the championship, as well".
