John Village Automotive dominates Free Practice sessions in Dijon
The drivers took to the track today at the Circuit Dijon-Prenois for Round 7 of the SUPERFUND Euro 3000 Championship. For the two 45 minute Free Practice sessions the drivers familiarised themselves with the circuit and worked on set up before the Official Free Practice session on Saturday morning.
The two John Village Automotive drivers dominated the day's timesheets. In the first Free Practice session, Alex Lloyd and Jonny Reid set the pace ahead of Bernhard Auinger from Euronova. Teams worked this morning to find the correct downforce set up necessary for the sharp differences in altitude and the bumpy surface characteristic of the track.
In the afternoon session, Alex Lloyd again posted the fastest time of the session with a 1:09.035 followed closely by team mate Jonny Reid with a 1:09.505. Championship leader Fabrizio Del Monte was just over half a second behind with 1:10.026.
The thirty minute Official Free Practice session will start tomorrow at 09:10am followed in the afternoon by an hour of Qualifying from 14:40pm.
Alex Lloyd, John Village Automotive:
"We were very quick this morning although when I looked at the split times they were slightly uneven as I wasn't hooking a full lap together. After lunch, we made some minor tweaks on the car, changed to new tyres and I posted the fastest time of the day. It's as if we're carrying on the momentum from Donington as both Jonny and I are quick and the car is really performing well. This is by far the most exciting track I've ever raced on so it should be good fun tomorrow!"
Jonny Reid, John Village Automotive:
"This is a fantastic circuit! I don't think I've ever driven on anything like it as there are lots of crests, blind sections and the last corner is incredible! You have to have a really good car as the track challenges every aspect of it and luckily that's something we've proved we have today. The car is really strong and despite having some slight electrical problems in the early part of the morning session, I'm feeling confident for tomorrow's Qualifying."
Fabrizio Del Monte, GP Racing:
"This morning I had a problem with the old tyres as they didn't suit the balance of the car. With the new set in the afternoon, the car changed completely and I was able to put in a pretty quick time. Alex and Jonny were so fast today so we still have a lot of work to do. I'm going to sit down with my engineers tonight and analyse the data so we can build on today's performance ready for the Official Session tomorrow and Qualifying".
