Petrov does it Again. Ricci on to of the rankings
Vitaly Petrov hits the victory again at Mugello Circuit after the first success earned in Budapest. The race control direction had to deal with a violent thunderstorm, and the race, without being too much affected, was officially declared "wet" by the stewards. The Russian took a soft start, securing third position behind Cressoni (good start for him) and Caceres. After taking the second spot from the Uruguayan, Petrov chased Vanni/Traini's driver: it took eleven laps to get into the lead, with a clean pass at the "Bucine".
Giacomo Ricci was again third, for Fisichella Motorsport., after coming back from 6th position in the reversed grid, and thanks to two consecutive great moves on Martini and Caceres. The two ended in 4th and 5th position, with Martini able to bring home another good result after yesterday's unattended 2nd position. Caceres was the best of Minardi's squad, in front of his team mate Tuka Rocha and Paolo Nocera. Marco Bonanomi, winner in Race 1, came only 8th, after suffering for some set-up issues.
Ricci takes the first position in the Euroseries 3000 standings and shares the leadership in the F3000 Italian Championship with his teammate (same points, but Ricci having more victories). Petrov, today's winner, gains the 4th spot in the European classification, setting up a challenge that will shine in next race, at Silverstone. <pre> Mugello circuit, 23 July 2006 Race 2 1.
