VICTORY THE AIM FOR EUROSERIES 3000 STAR BRATT AT MAGNY-COURS
Magny-Cours in France will be the venue for rounds three and four of the 2009 PartyPokerRacing.it Euroseries 3000 Championship this weekend, 27th/28th June, and sole British participant Will Bratt has his sights set on chalking up a debut win in the international single-seater category.
Achieving an excellent second place finish at Portimao in Portugal during the second race of the season curtain-raiser five weeks ago, the 21-year-old from Banbury is confident he can go one better at the long-time home of the French Formula One Grand Prix. Will has competed at Magny-Cours once before during the FIAT Spanish Formula 3 Championship last year.
"I really think a couple of wins could be on the cards in Magny-Cours", commented Will, "I'm feeling confident and it obviously helps that we've been to the track before in the F3 car last year. Since the first round this year at Portimao, we've had time to go over the 3000 car and I also have a new race engineer who, from this event onward, will be with us for the rest of the season."
In Portimao last month, Will was thrown in very much at the deep end against some phenomenal competition -- including GP2 Series front-runners Pastor Maldonado and Roldan Rodriguez -- when major car problems resulted in almost zero track time during the two official test days.
The EmiliodeVillota.com Motorsport team worked incredibly hard, day and night, to rectify the issues and after qualifying in the top six the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) Rising Star was able to claim richly deserved eighth place and second position finishes at the wheel of his Zytek-Lola.
Now, Will is focused on hitting the ground running when he arrives in central France at the end of the week and making an even bigger impact on the Euroseries 3000 Championship as the season progresses -- the champion's prize of a funded drive in GP2 in 2010 a massively tantalising carrot.
He said: "Magny-Cours isn't my favourite track in the world but there are some good corners which are quite enjoyable. If I win a race though, maybe it will be my favourite! We didn't get a lot of test time at the F3 event last year, just an hour, and that'll be the same this time around as we only get a couple of short practice sessions on the Saturday before qualifying and the races.
"I'm sure we'll be quick though, we were strong at Portimao and that was without any test time at all due to the mechanical problems we had with the new car. In F3 last year we had a pretty major brake problem at Magny-Cours so I feel we have unfinished business there. I'm focused on doing ourselves justice this time with two very strong results."
Will takes to the world-renowned Magny-Cours track for official Euroseries 3000 practice at 08.00, local time, on Saturday, 27th June, with a further 30-minute run at 10.30. Qualifying for the third round of the 2009 season will follow at approximately 14.20 with the opening race of the weekend scheduled to get underway at 17.40. Round four is set to commence at 12.00 on Sunday, 28th June.
