Changeable weather conditions make a fool of Team Draco: Farfus 3rd, Heidfeld 6th after leading the first part of qualifying session
Qualifying session began with wet track today, at Jerez in the penultimate round of the championship. In spite of this all the drivers joined the track with slick tyres and almost all of them set their fastest time within the first 30 minutes since the moment that it seemed that the weather conditions would have turned to rain. Suddenly the situation was overturned by a fast wind that swept away the last drops of water remained and the drivers who hadn't use the new set of tyres could exploit them on a quite perfect track. Unfortunately Team Draco drivers ended their lap times (with new tyres) 28 minutes to go. We remind that in Jerez the weather conditions are very changeable due to the closeness of the sea (yesterday 28°C - today 12°C).
Sven Heidfeld (car #7) - P6 on the grid "I'm close to the pole, I made a good job and during the qualifying session I had lead the group for a long time. The changed weather disturbed my job, for sure, because we thought it would have rained so we used both our new set of tyres. I have to make a good start tomorrow even if it will not be easy because I have good drivers in front of me. Anyway, I'm going to do my best for myself, my sponsor Schumann and my team, as well".
Augusto Farfus Junior (car #8) - P3 on the grid "I'm quite satisfied. I wanted, we wanted, to snatch the pole again, but we didn't want to take any risk and we put both new tyres at first, so tomorrow I'll start from the 2nd row. My car is really good here and I'm going to reach the first place on podium tomorrow. Everybody here is asking me about the championship and Bruni, and about his decision not to come to Jerez from the moment that he will not be racing in Japan. I want to say, and I like to do this through team Draco web site, that he had the possibility to come here today and to make his qualifying and the race, as well. As we all know during a race everything can happen. If I had not participate to the F1 race I would have flight to Jerez! But, I repeat: anyone can do what prefer best".
Adriano Morini (Team owner): "Nothing to say.. we expected the rain would have come. When the conditions are like these is always a lottery, but the race is tomorrow. I'm satisfied because I remind that here in 1998 Melo, at his debut in F3000, impressed everyone. Last year with team Traini he set the pole with 1 second advantage on all the others. Being only one tenth slower than him means a satisfaction for us and team Draco. About Bruni.. I'm sure that if the gap had been bigger (Farfus has 14 points over on Bruni and 10 points are given for each win and there are only 2 races to run: Jerez and Cagliari) he would have come here. As a professional man and manager I do not agree with his decision!".
