Team Draco qualifies in 2nd and 6th position for the "Gran Premio di Cagliari", final round of the championship

The 2nd edition of the "Gran Premio di Cagliari" welcomed the numerous spectators came for the event with a full programme, today. After the F3000 free practice, F3 warm-up, the Renault R23 F1 (with Jarno Trulli) and the Mercedes DTM (driven by ex F1 driver Jean Alesi) demonstrations, the Euro 3000 Series drivers were on track to face the 60 minutes of qualifying. The session took place with cloudy conditions today, on the 2414 m street circuit of Cagliari (Sardinia) at the last round of the championship. Today's session was one of the most competitive of the season with Team Draco's drivers fighting for the top positions mainly with Jaime Melo and new entry Norbert Siedler. German Sven Heidfeld grabbed the provisional pole in the early minutes of the session and was able to maintain his leading position for the first 15 minutes of the session. With a fastest lap, team mate Augusto Farfus, who won the championship title two weeks ago at Jerez, snatches the pole with the 1st set of new tyres thanks to a 1:07.051, just before Mauro Contu (ADM) crashed against the protection barriers and the session was interrupted by the red flag. From that moment on there was an interesting but strong battle between the drivers to clock the final pole. The Brazilian Farfus (with a bad flu) finally qualified 2nd and Sven Heidfeld 6th.

Sven Heidfeld (car #7) - P6 on the grid "With the first set of tyres I had the quickest time, with the second one--I didn't feel very good in my car. Maybe the track changed ; anyway I couldn't maintain my leading position. Then I improved of 2 tenths, with second set of tyres, but the other drivers improved more so I dropped to the 6th place. Tomorrow the race will be very long: 63 laps, and the start will be crucial".

Augusto Farfus Junior (car #8) - P2 on the grid "I set the provisional pole with my first set of new tyres, but then I found a lot of times yellow flags and traffic, so I could not set a clear lap time. This circuit is really interesting but it has made the qualifying more difficult because there isn't enough space to overtake and the bad flu I have didn't help. Unfortunately we missed the pole, but tomorrow I'll do my best to take another - possible - win".
