Piscopo in Auto GP with DAMS
Auto GP adds another important name to its entry list. Edoardo Piscopo, who was among the first drivers showing interest in the series concept, has signed a deal with DAMS to be on the championship grid from the first event, to be held in Brno on April 25th.
22 years-old, from Rome, Piscopo is one of the best talents in Italian motorsport, often among the top runners throughout his career. Apart from being very quick, Piscopo is a mentally very solid racer, something that he obtained racing far from home when he was very young. In 2005, at the age of 17, he decided to race in the F.Bmw USA and to live near his team's headquarter in Indianapolis, managing to close the series 3rd in the standings. In 2006 he got back to Italy, and raced in the Italian F.Renault, again with a final 3rd place. In 2008, Edoardo had his best season so far, finishing runner-up in the Italian F.3 Championship; in that year, he clinched 7 wins, 8 pole positions and eleven podium finishes, results that gave him the chance to fulfill the dream of every Italian racer, testing for the Ferrari F.1 team.
In 2009 Piscopo raced in A1GP with Team Italy, and then decided to compete in Formula 2. However, being frustrated by lots of mechanical failures, he decided to leave the series before the end of the season, focusing on a GP2 Asia experience with DAMS. The feeling was immediate, the performance was good, so the duo decided to race together also in Auto GP.
Enzo Coloni: "With Edoardo, Auto GP welcomes one of the best talents in italian motorsport, a driver who always showed how quick he can be, even driving the Ferrari F.1 car. After seeing him struggling in 2009 for reasons which were out of his control, we are very happy to give him the chance to show what he can do on a fast and very reliable car. I'm sure that having already worked with DAMS in GP2 Asia, he will be fast from the very first sessions.
Edoardo Piscopo: "I'm really happy of this deal with DAMS, because I have a really great relationship with the team. I'm very excited about my Auto GP commitment, and I look forward to the first race in Brno. My aim for the season is to be quick, but also very consistent because, in order to win the prize money, collecting points in both the weekend's races will be vital".
