All three Charouz-Gravity Racing drivers scored points in Brno
2010 Auto GP season started this week in Brno. Two races were scheduled on Sunday. Jan Charouz scored points for fourth place in Race 1 and sixth in Race 2. Adrien Tambay finished Race 1 on the sixth position and scored his first points, Walter Grubmuller Jr. was successful in Race 2, when he finished fifth and scored two points.
The first race of all new series Auto GP started at Brno circuit on Sunday, April 25, at 11am. Jan Charouz started really well, when he moved from tenth position on the grid up to the fifth position after first lap. His team-mates Adrien Tambay and Walter Grubmuller Jr. had to avoid some incidents on the track and were back of the pack. In the fifth lap first drivers came to mandatory pit stops and the standings started to change.
Jan Charouz was fighting for podiums places whole the race and Adrien Tambay and Walter Grubmuller Jr. started to climb up. When the last drivers made their pit stops, the Czech driver was running on P4, Frenchman was on P6 and Austrian on P9 and all Charouz-Gravity Racing drivers conserve their position until the finish of the race. Jan and Adrien scored their first championship points.
Jan Charouz, racing driver of Charouz-Gravity Racing: "Before the pit stop the handling of the car was not ideal, the car was understeering, but on the second tyre set it was much better and I made better lap times. It is shame, that it was not same whole the race. But it was the first race and I am happy, that I scored first points."
Adrien Tambay, racing driver of Charouz-Gravity Racing: "I had a very good start. Somebody stalled in front, so I had to avoid him, but steering was good. Than I tried to make positions, but somebody crashed in first corner, I had to go around, than Walter came on my side and I came little bit into the gravel. So the start was little bit massive, but not so much my fault. Than I pushed very hard before the pit stop, we also win some time during the pit stop. When I was back on the track, I so the sign with my position. It was P6, but I thought it was P8, so I was little bit stressed of geting ninth. So I was whole the race trying not to make mistakes, being smooth and gain first points. We still have a lot of to do to improve the pace of the car."
Walter Grubmuller Jr., racing driver of Charouz-Gravity Racing: "Of course, I am disappointed. One more position and I could start next race from pole position. But there were many crashes in the first lap and I lost some positions avoiding this incidents. Than I was stucked in the group, so I made the pit stop and gained one or two places. Than I made up to more places, I was able to catch the group in front of me, but I was not able to get one more place and it costs me pole for the next race."
The grid of the Race 2 is determined by results of the Race 1, but first eight drivers start in reverse order. So Adrien Tambay was third on the grid of the second race, Jan Charouz started fifth and Walter Grubmuller from ninth position. Frenchman had a good start and hold third position, Walter Grubmuller Jr. moved up to eight position, but Jan Charouz lost some positions and was tenth.
During the race Walter and Jan were able to move up to Top 7 and Adrien was holding third position. But in the penultimate lap he made mistake, went off the road and retired. Walter Grubmuller Jr. scored two points for fifth place, Jan Charouz was classified on sixth position.
Jan Charouz, racing driver of Charouz-Gravity Racing: "I had a bad start, the grip was high, but I don't push the gear throttle enough. The revs got low, so I had to push clutch again, let the revs go higher and than start. So I lost some positions and it was impossible to get them back during the race."
Adrien Tambay, racing driver of Charouz-Gravity Racing: "I tried to push a lot whole the race and I was doing good, but the car is really hard to drive. I made just one mistake and that mistake cost me the podium. It's a shame, first for the team, because we were working very hard, because the weekend was not easy. We have to see, what happened, because I was breaking as early as before, I tried to pull off my feet from the brakes to unlock it, but it didn't work. This is first time in my career, when somethink like this happened. Next time we must be in the finish of the race. That's it."
Walter Grubmuller Jr., racing driver of Charouz-Gravity Racing: "Very good start. I made up three places. In turn 4 I lost one place, because we were running in the group and I braked little bit earlier. After that, I was controling my position and I am happy to score first points."
