After last weekends visit to the newest racetrack in North America in Millville, NJ, Condor Motorsports Team Holland went straight to the mormon capital of the world, Salt Lake City, Utah. Drivers Junior Strous (car # 6) and Dominick Muermans (car # 9) were not unhappy with their results in the first qualifying session today on Miller Motorsports Park. Junior qualified 5th and Dominick 17th.
Miller Motorsports Park, just 30 miles outside Salt Lake City, Utah, was built three years ago. The Atlantic Championship runs on the main track; with a length of 4,5 miles and 23 turns it is the longest lap in North America. The front straight is 3500 feet and corners have names like Agony, Ecstasy, Devil, Mabey Y'll Makit, Scream, Witchcraft and Bad Attitude.
As a main support programme in the The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Serie, it is the penultimate round of the 2008 Atlantic Championship. Six drivers are still in mathematical contention to win of the championship. Junior Strous is one of them as he is 4th in the championship with only a 38 points difference to the leader Jonathan Bomarito.
Junior Strous: "Before the qualifying there was a threat of rain. So we went for safe and started out on new tyres. But the rain never came. The car was great and I could push well. I kept improving my laptimes but in the last two laps two other drivers went faster. At the end of the session I was 5th. The set up of the car was a little too aggressive, a little to stiff. Tomorrow we will change this and hope on an even better result".
Dominick Muermans: "For me this session was more of a free practice session. Yesterday during the promotor test day I crashed my car in the first session. This morning I lost my left rear tyre. So I lost a lot of time to get used to this circuit.. We did change the set up after this mornings session but we need to change a bit more. I found a good rythm and am not unhappy with the result. Tomorrow I will realy qualify for the race."
