Patrick takes ninth in Atlantic Qualifying

TORONTO, ONTARIO Team Rahal's Danica Patrick took ninth in the Argent Mortgage Company car in the Toyota Atlantic provisional qualifying session at the Molson Indy Toronto. Patrick ran her fast lap of 94.042 mph late in the thirty-minute qualifying session.

The first day of the 2003 Molson Indy Toronto was disrupted by intermittent showers which made the Exhibition Place track treacherous and limited track time for all the series running this weekend.

"It was wet in the morning and while we didn't run the whole time we did struggle with overall grip," said Patrick. "It is obviously a lot different to run this track in an Atlantic car than the Barber Dodge car that I ran here last year, so I spent part of the morning just adapting to the differences and getting reacquainted with the track. I had a little problem with the brakes during qualifying. They must be full of air or something because I actually had to pump them for every corner and that cost me on my lap times."

Series points leader A.J. Allmendinger captured the provisional pole and secured a front row starting position for Saturday's race with a fast lap of 96.536 mph. Grid positions two through nine are separated by a little over a second..

Qualifying for Saturday's Toyota Atlantic event will resume on Saturday morning (9:00 am) with the race scheduled for 4:00 pm local time tomorrow on the 1.755-mile course. (7/11/03)
