Ricci Finishes Wet Race Matching His Career Best Fourth Place
Matt Lee's race ended after a rear end crash with Herberts
Giacomo Ricci (#18 Banca Italease / Lotto / Global / Mazda-Cosworth) and Matt Lee (#44 Integrated Structures / Mazda-Cosworth) battled heavy rain in today's Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto. Ricci had an excellent race and avoided the many collisions to finish fourth overall. Lee unfortunately was involved in an accident caused by Herberts and was hit from behind by #45 car which damaged his rear suspension and rear wing, ending his day early.
With his finish today, Giacomo Ricci has moved to fifth place in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship race and is currently third in the Rookie of the Year standings. His fourth place finish marks the third race in a row in which he has finished in the top six.

"I'm really happy with how well I was able to do despite the difficult conditions," said Ricci. "We lost some momentum when the race was halted for rain but in the end I was able to drive well and get a fourth place finish. I'm happy for the team and everyone there did a great job for me. I'm looking forward now to the double header in Edmonton in two weeks."

"Despite the weather, I was having a good race today," began Lee. "I was able to pass quite a bit and had a good start and restarts after the numerous red and yellow flags. Unfortunately, contact with Herberts caused my race to end early so now I'll just start looking toward the future races to use my experience today to improve my standings."
Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Manager
"Matt was one of the drivers who was a bystander in one of today's many accidents," said Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Team Manager. "Both drivers were running really well and could have both had top five finishes but the incident for Matt caused him damage in the rear wing and ended his day. Ricci drove a very smart race and in his quest to overtake Ryan Lewis had the third fastest lap time. We are really happy for Giacomo and looking forward to the double header in Edmonton."
The green flag drops on the ninth and tenth round of the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Championship in two weeks at the Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton on July 20th and 21st. The race will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Monday, July 23rd beginning at 5:00 p.m. EST.
