KOOL/TOYOTA ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP TELEVISION PACKAGE CONTINUES ITS WORLDWIDE COVERAGE IN 1997

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (March 13) - - Exceptional worldwide television coverage of the KOOL/ TOYOTA Atlantic Championship continues to be a series prime directive, and this years television package is no exception. Expanding television sports leader ESPN2 will showcase all the action of Atlantic racing during prime-time weekend programming throughout the United States, while KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic races will again be televised on Canadian television networks CTV (English) and RDS (French). Each of the 12 Atlantic races will be broadcast for the second consecutive year in a one-hour format that will include a one-hour year-end Season Review show. Additionally, worldwide interest and demand for televised KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship races are on the rise, with ESPN International remaining the global flagship network. The potential reach includes 141 countries throughout South and Central America, Europe, Asia, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and the Middle East. In 1996, Atlantic telecasts reached more than 23 million viewers worldwide. Atlantic racing will also continue to resonate through the airwaves of Brazil in 1997. Fittipaldi USA, together with the SBT Network, will air up to 30 minutes of Atlantic highlights from all 12 events on Sunday afternoons. Fittipaldi USA also owns the Brazilian television rights to the PPG-CART World Series. "Comprehensive and expanded television coverage of the KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship continues to be a major series strength," said Vicki OConnor, president of Pro-Motion Agency, Ltd., the company which administers the Atlantic series. "As committed as we are to providing one of the worlds best training grounds for future open-wheel racing stars in CART, IRL, and Formula One, the series is also committed to providing maximum exposure which will undoubtedly assist Atlantic drivers in securing sponsorship and further developing their careers." For the fourth consecutive year, all 1997 television programming will be produced by John B. Mullin, Inc., of Westlake Village, Calif., and First Auto Sports Television. Veteran Formula One and 1997 PPG CART announcer Bob Varsha, and Atlantic graduate and expert commentator Jon Beekhuis will anchor one of professional motorsports strongest announcing teams. Pit row, garage, and feature reports will be shared by noted ESPN and network broadcasters Gary Gerould, Chris McClure, and Rick DeBruhl. Gerould will also share in anchor duties with Varsha. The 1997 KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship offers more than $1.3 million (U.S.) in total prize and bonus money, making it the richest open-wheel development series in North America.
