Bobby Rahal announced today that Danica Patrick has been signed to a long term contract with Team Rahal. She will drive in three Barber Pro series races this year, then in 2003 Patrick will contest the full Toyota Altantic series.

Patrick has raced in Europe the past three years in the Formula Ford and Formula Vauxhall championships. British formula Ford is a "street fight" according to Rahal. "I knew that if I was going to reach goals like Formula One or CART Champ Cars I needed to race in British formula Ford," says Patrick And she did well. She finished second in the "Formula Ford Festival," She is the second American to finish this high, and the highest finish ever by a female. Danny Sullivan in 1974 was the other American to finish his high in the Festival.

Patrick first came to the attention of Rahal while he was with Jaguar in Europe. "I saw her race a few times and heard of her before. We developed an interest in her and this the outcome of that." Rahal stressed his belief in the CART ladder system and the value of the Atlantic series. Rahal also spoke of his commitment to developing new drivers, as his mentor Jim Trueman had.

"I would like to thank Bobby and Team Rahal for this opportunity and I promise him that I will do my best and impress him and the team...Let's go racing!"
