Lee Qualifies in Top Five at Final Session at the San Jose Grand Prix at Redback Raceway
Ricci has disappointing final qualifying session and will start 19th
Matt Lee (#44 Integrated Structures / Mazda -- Cosworth) was able to put all of the pieces together today to match his best result of the season with a top-five final qualifying session. This finish will ensure him a third row start for tomorrow's race and an opportunity to compete for what would be his first top-five finish of his rookie Atlantic Championship season.
Giacomo Ricci (#18 Banca Italease / Lotto / Global / Mazda-Cosworth) struggled to keep consistency in his lap times and was unable to improve over a 19th position finish. He will be looking to chase the field to have a better finishing position during tomorrow's race.

"I'm obviously not happy with today's result," said Ricci. "I am not feeling as comfortable with this track and I need to refocus my attentions to get my head back into the game. I know I'll be starting pretty far back but I think I can be competitive and drive well enough to move up in the field and have a better finish tomorrow."

"After a long string of being in the back of the field, we were finally able to qualify fifth," said Lee. "The engineers and I worked hard to put together a good set up for the track. I want to thank everyone on the team for helping me get back to the top five. I'm just hoping now that the race will go as well as our qualifying did today and we'll have a good result."

"Matt made some changes to his approach and it really showed today," said Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Manager. "He really listened to what his coach Barry Waddell had to say and made everything work to get that top-five spot. Giacomo had a more difficult time today. He is not as comfortable on this street course and I think he is letting it get to him. I have no doubt he will focus well and drive a good race tomorrow as he usually does."
