Conquest Completes Provisional Qualifying Session at the San Jose Grand Prix at Redback Raceway
Ricci's day ended early after a brush with the wall while Matt Lee completes session in 14th
Giacomo Ricci #18 Banca Italease / Lotto / Global / Mazda-Cosworth
"We tried a different setup in the car today and it seemed to be working well for us," said Ricci. "Unfortunately, the car started to feel pretty loose as the session wore on. I made a mistake but on these street tracks you have to take more risks and with each lap I was coming closer to the wall. The last two or three laps I kept loosing the rear of the car and at the end I pushed too hard and hit the wall. Tomorrow's qualifying will be very important since I wasn't able to maximize the session time today."
Matt Lee #44 Integrated Structures / Mazda - Cosworth
"Today's qualifying went relatively well," began Lee. "No running into the wall or any crashes which was good. I was slowly pushing the car on every lap to go quicker. Unfortunately my fastest lap was when three cars were tangled together on the main straight and the track went red so my time didn't count. I just needed a few more laps and I feel I could have been a lot faster."
Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Manager
"While Matt was able to have a clean qualifying session today, Ricci brushed the wall in turn three," said Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Manager. "The team is going to be getting the #18 car ready for tomorrow's final qualifying so that he can improve from that 20th place provisional qualifying. I can see both of the drivers pushing for fast times and Matt was just about there prior to the early red checkered flag. The team will look forward to the final qualifying and improving their starting positions for Sunday's race."
