Dalziel turns circles in California

With the start of the 2004 Toyota Atlantic Championship at Long Beach just over two weeks away, Ryan Dalziel was back behind the wheel of his Sierra Sierra Enterprises #28 ProWorks entry yesterday (Tuesday 30th) continuing the team's busy pre-season test schedule, this time preparing for the only oval race on the 12-round race calendar -- The Milwaukee Mile.

The team headed west from their base in Nevada to California and the Irwindale Speedway, just 25 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. While the half-mile super speedway was new to Dalziel, runner-up in the 2003 championship, and his rookie team-mate, Canada's Andrew Ranger, the test afforded both drivers the opportunity to put pedal to the metal and turn some seriously fast laps on the L.A. oval.

The team's latest pre-season outing followed a successful road-course test earlier this month where Ryan blitzed the field at the Firebird International Raceway. The 21-year-old Scottish charger was evidently pleased with a return to oval running.

Ryan enthused post-test: "It was great to be back on oval! My car was awesome today and the team, as ever, have worked really hard to ensure we're competitive no matter what type of circuit we're running on. We're certainly up to speed on the oval and as it's our one and only test prior to the race at Milwaukee I think we're looking good to return there and defend my race win from 2003!"

Dalziel's victory at the Milwaukee Mile last May marked his first career Toyota Atlantic win and the first trip to victory lane for Sierra Sierra Enterprises, just six races into the team's short history. Having captured pole position for the event earlier in the weekend Ryan went on to dominate the race around the 1-mile oval, the oldest circuit of its kind in America. Ryan's Milwaukee victory was soon followed up with a return to the top step at Portland, with seven additional podium visits steering the Scot tantalizingly close to the title.
