SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - P-1 Racing has announced plans to contest Rocky Moran, Jr., for the remaining six races of the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship, beginning with the Trois-Rivieres, Que., event on August 1.

Moran, Jr., will pilot the car previously driven by Dave Cutler, of Seattle, Wash. While Cutler has enjoyed steady progress this season, and has been surprisingly quick on the ovals, he feels it's time to let a young lion like Moran get a chance to show his potential.

"I've known Rocky and his dad for some time now, and have been impressed with his ability, from day one. As tough as it is to step out of the cockpit while I'm having such a good time in the series, I feel the timing is right to give Rocky his chance," said Cutler.

However, Cutler has left the door open for a possible return in selected races in the team's spare car.

"I'm extremely happy and grateful for the faith Dave has shown in me," said Moran, Jr. "I know opportunities like this don't come along often, and I plan to make the most of it."

The P-1 team has already tested the 19-year-old Californian at the Buttonwillow, Calif., track on July 14 and July 15. He was soon on pace with P-1's J.-F. Veilleux and Team KOOL Green's Alex Gurney.

Primary sponsorship from Compaq and Epigram will remain with the car as will its "Ferrari Red" livery.
