Walker Racing Ends 2008 Atlantic Season on a High at Road Atlanta
Indianapolis, IN (October 8, 2008)- Walker Racing capped off the 2008 season on a notable high for the Cooper Tires Presents the Atlantic Championship finale in Road Atlanta. The team's drivers, Canadian Kevin Lacroix, and Englishmen, Greg and Leo Mansell, all recorded and matched their season high results.
Road Atlanta marked a good end of the year for sophomore Lacroix. The 19 year-old, St. Eustache, Quebec native, signed with Walker Racing last August, contesting his first full-time effort in Atlantics for 2008. After a rough weekend, with two accidents during practice, the Canadian had a very strong start and drove a solid race for a second place finish. Lacroix finished on the podium in Long Beach with third place, qualified five times in the top-5, and had four top-4 results, finishing ninth in the overall standings.
Much like his teammate, Greg Mansell rounded off his season on a positive note. This was the first time racing in America for the 20 year old, the youngest son of Formula One and IndyCar champion, Nigel Mansell. Greg qualified eighth for the event, drove a clean race and moved up a couple of spots to fifth place, resulting in his highest finish of the season. The Brit finished tenth in the championship.
Miles and experience are what Leo Mansell gained this season. The 23 year-old, the eldest son of Nigel Mansell, improved greatly and concluded his season in style. Driving another consistent race, Leo qualified 16th, worked his way up the grid, and matched his career-best result with an 11th place finish in the race and 19th overall in the standings.
