Update on Team Platinum from Road America

THE NEED FOR SPEED

For Immediate Release

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 16, 1997)

With only three races remaining in this year's KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship, the Need for Speed is a primary issue.

"The starting position for tomorrow's race is extremely important. It's very difficult to win a race at this track unless you start up front. Not impossible, just difficult" quoted Lazzaro. "Most drivers factor two races in each event weekend.. one race for qualifying, and one race for the Win."

Lazzaro qualified fifth for tomorrow's race with Chuck West on the Pole, followed by Joao Barbosa, Alex Barron and Memo Gidley. The Winner of most of the races, held this year in the series, started from the Pole Position with the remainder of the races being won from either second or third position.

"Our car was great for the Mid-Ohio race last weekend. We finished fourth and I felt that the car was right coming to Road America." Lazzaro continued. "I don't know what happened to the car from the time we put it in the transporter to the time we took it out for the first practice, but it was almost like a totally different car"

"The setup was way off during the first practice and yesterday's qualifying session. At the end of the day I found out that Phillips had put more wings in the car than I asked for. I was very disappointed because I needed a good qualifying run to make it up front" Lazzaro was referring to Pierre Phillips of Phillips Motorsports - operator of Team Platinum.

"This is one of the most difficult tracks for car set ups. After this morning's session, I finally feel that we may have the set up where it needs to be. It is just a shame that we couldn't have found the speed for yesterday's sessions."

Round 10 of the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship series will be held at Road America in Wisconsin on August 17. ESPN2 will air the event on Saturday, August 23 at 12:30pm EST.

Lazzaro drives for Team Platinum which is sponsored by the Per4mer Racing Wheel manufacturer, Platinum Sound. He is also sponsored by BG Products and Budget Car Rental.
