Ryan retains Road America Pole

Ryan Dalziel continued to set the pace in qualifying at Road America today as he trumped his own lap record, set in yesterday's first qualifying session, to secure pole position for tomorrow's race, Round 9 of the Toyota Atlantic Championship.

The 22-year-old Scot shaved two tenths of a second off his course record in today's final grid-setting session, blitzing the 4.048-mile Elkhart Lake track with a flying lap of 1m59.504s. Dalziel, wrapping up his fifth pole position of the 2004 season, once again was the only runner to break the two-minute barrier with his pole winning time an impressive sixth tenths clear of Pacific Coast's Jon Fogarty in second.

As an additional bonus Ryan's stunning pace secured yet another championship point to add to the one collected in yesterday's qualifying session. Fogarty's lead at the top of the points standings has been slashed to 11 points by Dalziel (212-201) with another 31 available to tomorrow's race winner with additional points on offer for fastest race lap and most laps led.

Ryan led a clean sweep of the points in Vancouver a fortnight ago and the Sierra Sierra Enterprises driver will expect nothing less than the same from tomorrow's proceedings. With three wins, five poles and four fastest laps, the #28 ProWorks pilot is determined to take the fight to 2002 Series Champion Jon Fogarty heading into the final four races of the year.

The next installment in this epic title fight commences tomorrow morning at Road America with the race set for 17 laps of the longest circuit on the Toyota Atlantic schedule.

Sunday's race, Round 9 of the 12-race 2004 Toyota Atlantic Championship is scheduled to start at 12pm Eastern Time. Live timing and results from Road America along with the latest points standings can be found online at www.toyotaatlantic.com
