Forsythe Atlantics Place Well in Road America Final Qualifying
ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin - Saturday, September 23, 2006 - In a frenetic Final Qualifying session at Road America that saw initially dry conditions interrupted by periods of rain and red flags, Forsythe Championship Racing Atlantic drivers managed to post good laps early with James Hinchcliffe third, Andreas Wirth fourth and Richard Philippe seventh before light rain slowed the track enough to force an end to meaningful hot laps. Leonardo Maia suffered bad luck as a throttle problem that was repaired twice during the session finally forced him to retire from the session without posting a fast lap. Friday's top qualifier secured a guaranteed front-row starting position, moving today's top qualifiers down one spot on Sunday's race grid.
"The car was great today in the dry and we're going to have a really good race car tomorrow, so I think we're pretty well positioned for the race. A couple of the guys in front of us can't afford to make any mistakes so we'll push them hard and see what happens."
"It's unfortunate that we had the rain and the Red Flags. The balance was good and we had a shot at the Pole. But we're up at the front and it's the last race so it will be maximum attack for sure!"
"I had clear track and was on a really good lap when the first Red came out so it's just a bit unlucky. Sometimes there are things like rain and Red Flags that we have no control over so there's no sense in crying about it. The car is good and this is a really fun track to drive so I'm looking forward to the race!"
"We've just had some terrible luck this weekend and in that session we had an oddball throttle problem. The car just stopped. We were able to get towed back to pit lane twice but the problem kept reappearing. All we can do is give it everything we've got and try to move up through the field."
