Patrick seventh on first day at Portland.

PORTLAND, OR . . .Team Rahal's Danica Patrick battled changing weather conditions as well as the other 13 cars in CART Toyota Atlantic Championship qualifying in provisional qualifying at Portland International Raceway. Patrick piloted the Argent Mortgage car to seventh on the provisional grid with a fast lap of 104.369 mph.

Temperatures in the upper 50s and sporadic rain showers made conditions slick and difficult during the afternoon qualifying. Patrick posted her fast lap of 104.369 mph in the dry conditions.

"It was very slick out there and the change from dry to wet conditions changed the entire feel of the session," said Patrick. "We made a couple of changes which improved the car, but finding the grip we needed with the wet conditions just didn't happen. We showed we had a good car this morning when we were fifth and if we can get a break with the weather we will get a chance to show it. The forecast is better for tomorrow which is a good since we qualify and race."

Qualifying for the Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Portland will resume on Saturday morning with the race scheduled for Saturday afternoon. SPEED Channel will carry the race on tape delayed on Monday and Saturday
