Sciuto Takes Best Finish of the Season, Barron 16th in Portland Atlantic Race
Portland, Oregon (June 18, 2006) -- Polestar Racing Group's Alan Sciuto (#12 Sealy/PKV Racing, The RoomStore of Phoenix) narrowly missed capturing his first podium of the season by finishing fourth in today's Champ Car Atlantic race at Portland International Raceway. Teammate Alex Barron (#21 The RoomStore of Phoenix) started and finished in the 16th position in today's 40-lap race, slowed by only one full-course caution.
"It was a good race and the best finish we've had all year," said Sciuto, who jumped up to third from his sixth starting position in the first two corners. "I was hit from behind at the start and barely saved it, then saw a hole and made it through. The car was strong, but the yellow flag kind of hurt me. I was passed on the re-start by some people who weren't as quick, then it was hard to get back around. When I was right behind someone, the air was taken away from the car and I couldn't keep it on the track. But, it was a good race, and it gives us some forward momentum going into the team's home race in Cleveland."
"We just started too far back," said Barron. "We got the rear of the car to work pretty well, but I had a lot of understeer in the middle of the corner and couldn't get a good run on people to get around them. Of course, we wish we would have finished a bit higher up, but at least we have a better feel for the car and I think we'll have a good set-up for next weekend's race in Cleveland."
James Hinchcliffe captured his first Atlantic victory of the season today, followed by Ryan Lewis and Andreas Wirth. Today's event will be televised via SPEED on Saturday, June 24, at 4:00 PM ET. Rounds five and six of the 12-race Yokohama Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda continue with a double-header at the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland on June 24-25, in Cleveland, Ohio.
