Newman Wachs Racing Announces Cooper Series Champion J.R. Hildebrand As Its First Selected Driver for 2007
The 2006 Cooper Tires Formula Ford 2000 series champion J.R. Hildebrand will join Newman Wachs Racing for the 2007 season in the Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda.
J.R. Hildebrand brings a very impressive record to the NWR Atlantic team after shattering the record for most wins for a season in the Cooper Tire FF 2000 series with twelve in '06. The 18-year-old native of Sausalito, California made his Atlantic debut for the NWR squad at the '06 season finale at Road America. "(NWR team co-owner) Eddie (Wachs) has given me a lot of opportunities this year and I am really grateful for that. He is a super guy, and I will be pushing 100% all the time to bring him some hardware," said Hildebrand.
Team principals Eddie Wachs, who owns NWR with legendary actor Paul Newman, and Ove Olsson have been restructuring the team since the last round at Road America. "J.R. impressed us from day one," said Wachs "His commitment and work ethic are exceptional. J.R has had much success this season and we are hoping he will bring the same success into our program. The driver's comfort is very important, and I feel we can achieve that here with our group of people. We are also in negotiations with a Technical Director to finalize our engineering staff. It's all very exciting and all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together. We are really looking forward to next season, and we are expecting to field a second funded car which will be announced within the next thirty days."
