CHUCK WEST COACHES WIFE THROUGH BIRTH OF HIS FIRST CHILD WHILE RACING IN NAZARETH
Waiting for the birth of your first child is a nerve wracking and emotional experience for any couple. But for KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic driver, Chuck West, and his wife Missy, the experience was even more difficult.
Chuck was participating in last Thursday's open test session for the Atlantic series while Missy was in labor for the birth of the couple's first child. He was in constant contact with Missy during the day by cellular phone.
"Every time I got out of the car, I would get on the phone to talk to Missy," said West. "The timing wasn't all that great being so far away, but that's how it goes with racing. Fortunately she understands."
Missy delivered a healthy baby boy on Thursday at 5:50 p.m. PST. Dakota West weighed in at 8lbs, 8 oz.
"Everything went really well," said the happy new father. "There were no complications and Missy and Dakota are both home."
How does the new father feel about having a new son?
"It's great," said a happy and relieved West. "I feel really good."
Missy was due to deliver the baby during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach but attended the race any way. The couple, who live in Sonoma, Calif., were prepared for the birth with doctors on call and transportation to the hospital if Missy delivered while the couple was in Long Beach.
