Rice, who only needed to collect eight more points than fellow U.S. F2000 alumni Dan Wheldon, clinched the championship with a second place finish in the penultimate round. Rice, who has five wins and nine podium finishes in 2000, becomes the third U.S. F2000 alumni to win the championship in the past four seasons.

Rice, of Phoenix, Ariz., competed in U.S. F2000 from 1996 to 1997. In 16 races, Rice had one win ( Phoenix International Raceway), captured two poles (Walt Disney World Speedway, Phoenix) and finished fourth in the 1997 point standings.

The U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision continues its 2000 season, September 23 at Indianapolis Race Park with Round Eleven of the National Championship and the final round of the Road To Indy Oval Crown Championship.
