AB clocks in fastest race lap
Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Montreal, Canada, August 28th. -- Antoine Bessette overcame a pit stop on the 12th lap for a flat tire resulting from a contact but recovered from a distant last place to finish in 21st overall in the Montreal Champ Car Atlantic race on the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve this Monday. In doing so, AB ran the fastest lap in the race on a damp track where he always feels comfortable. The 2005 returning Montreal round winner had his share of problems over the weekend and was not able to perform to his capacity.
"I lost valuable seat time Friday morning when a sensor sent the wrong message to the computer and the engine was shut down after I exited the pit lane, claimed the 24-year old St-Bruno resident. From then on, I had to catch up that session. I took the first qualifying session to bed some brakes, set up the car and try to reel in a decent time. By Saturday, the #8 Samsara Concept car suffered some serious oversteer and going through a few corners, let alone qualifying the car, required a slower entry speed. The rain was a great equalizer on Sunday morning and I had the 8th fastest time in the warm-up.
I was looking for a strong finish on a wet track but the race was postponed until Monday. That was obviously the good decision. We started the race on a damp track and I knew I could reel in a few cars but I made an accidental contact with Tim (Bridgman) and my left rear tire exploded. After I pitted for fresh rubber, I went back and clocked a solid 1:45:706 while picking up a few places. Putting on some slicks never crossed my mind."
Considering Road America finale
Bessette had some talks with a few teams over the weekend and he might take part in the season finale at Road America in Elkhart Lake. "I would like to be back for the last race of the season in Wisconsin. We had talks with John (Brooks) and a few teams and we will see if we can strike a deal for the September round. This series is very competitive and it is always exciting to be part of it."
