Bessette, fourth in Mexico
Monterrey, Mexico. May 23. -- Rookie driver Antoine Bessette finished in fourth place of the second round of the Toyota Atlantic series in Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico. The French-Canadian recovered from a spin while trying to overtake for second place and was able to resume racing after Mexican driver David Martinez passed him and take the points for fourth place overall. After two rounds, AB still holds second place, six points behind new leader Charles Zwolsman, winner in Mexico.
"I paid one position overall for trying to overtake Tonis (Kasemets) in the tenth lap, said the 23-year old. I had him setup from lap three when I saw I had I could speed by him on corner 3. We came into the previous corner and I carried full speed to stay behind him and take advantage of the slipstream. But my car went to deep on the curb and the speed bumps lifted my car in the air, spinning my car around. I was able to keep the engine running and resumed the race immediately, but Martinez had passed by. At the end, I was closing quickly on him and a lap or two would have given me a chance to climb on the podium, but it was too late,"
Looking for the proper setup all weekend
For two days, Bessette and his Polestar crew tried to reach the best setup for the #3 UNIK Auto Design car. "We tried many combinations throughout the practice and qualifying sessions, added AB. With one setup, the car suffered from understeeer. Trying to correct it just a bit would make it oversteer! I realized the third best time of the weekend but always thought we did not reach the best setup. We'll try to get back to our Long Beach attitude when we work in Portland."
Six points for leading the standings
Second only to Zwolsman and one point in front of teammate Katherine Legge, Bessette will take part in the Canadian Grand Prix in the coming weeks before he gets back to work on the road racing facility in Portland for an important double header on June 18 and 19. Antoine Bessette will again drive the Polestar Racing Group #3 UNIK Auto Design car.
