Second in Atlantic standings, Bessette ready for Mexico

Saint-Bruno, Quebec. May 17. -- When asked about his second race this season, rookie Antoine Bessette says he is ready for Fundidora Park next weekend. The French-Canadian had a stellar performance in Long Beach for his first ever event in Toyota Formula Atlantic last month: he was quickest in both qualifying sessions, led most laps in the race while getting fastest lap but came up short of victory when he was slowed by other competitors five laps from the end, giving teammate Katherine Legge an opportunity to clinch the first victory ever by a female in this 32 year-old series. Both Polestar drivers spent three days testing their race cars two weeks ago, a good way to stay fit and get ready for the coming rounds.

"Our testing days went very well, declared Bessette at a press conference held in Montreal for the announcement of the Montreal Champ car festivities weekend in August. For three full days in Carolina, I worked with my crew on setting up the car in different situations. Our progression was very satisfying. We were getting ready for Mexico and other rounds. We have been idle for a month, but we'll have to work hard in the next months with eleven races before the season concludes in Montreal at the end of August."

Press conference in Montreal

Representing the Toyota Formula Atlantic series, Bessette was invited for the announcement of the festivities around the Molson Indy Champ Car weekend in August and he took the opportunity to meet with press representatives from Quebec. "I am very thankful to Martin Spalding (event general manager) for the invitation. When a driver reaches the Atlantic level, he gets a lot of visibility and recognition. Champ Car drivers Alexandre Tagliani and Andrew Ranger who were on hand have been there before me."

When asked who was fastest between him and Legge in the test days, AB said with a smile: "All I will say is that I was very happy at the end of everyday!"

One point for leading the standings

With the four bonus points earned in Long Beach, Bessette sits second behind teammate Legge, 32 points to 31. The next round of the 32nd season of the Toyota Formula Atlantic takes place this Friday at Fundidora Park, a 2,1mile 12-turn urban facility in Monterrey, Mexico. Antoine Bessette will drive the Polestar Racing Group #3 UNIK Auto Design car.
