Mixed Day for Walker Racing in Mont Tremblant as Weather Conditions Changed

Mont Tremblant, QC, Canada - After fighting through the changing weather conditions today, Simona De Silvestro qualified her career best, clocking the sixth fastest lap time of 1:27.222 seconds (108.179 mph) in today's final qualifying round for Round 7 of the Champ Car Atlantic series.

Continuing the momentum from yesterday's strong session, the 18-year old was only able to get one good run in on old tires, putting her sixth on the grid for tomorrow's race.

Today proved to be quite the opposite for her teammate, Ryan Lewis, who qualified nineteenth for tomorrow's race. With high hopes of clocking a fast time, the weather and a brake master cylinder problem came at the wrong moment, not allowing the Brit to improve his lap time. Lewis clocked the nineteenth fastest time of 1:28.031 seconds (107.185 mph).

The green flag will drop at 10:30 a.m. ET tomorrow morning for the Champ Car Mont Tremblant race.

What they had to say:

Simona De Silvestro: "We definitely continued our momentum from yesterday, because I have had a great car all weekend. We continued developing the car and it headed in the right way and now we are P6 and I'm really happy about it. We didn't have the chance to run on new tires, because of the rain, so we will have an extra set for tomorrow and we will be good."

Ryan Lewis: "It's just unfortunate that in that session we got caught up by the weather and we weren't able get a good run on new tires. We didn't change the car a lot from this morning, and the car was very competitive and we were feeling good coming into second qualifying. The car wasn't as good, we did a lot of miles on the car and didn't get a good run on new tires. We had a bit of brake master cylinder problem as well which held us up and caused us to lock up. We had some bad luck and now we start 19th on the grid tomorrow."

Derrick Walker, owner: "Yesterday's incident was a good recovery on the part of the team and Simona. They put the car together pretty late last night and the car never missed a beat today. If it hadn't have rained on her right at the end, I'm almost certain we would have been a top three car, which would have been our season best for sure, but the car is good and we are headed in the right direction and we will see what tomorrow brings. Ryan, it's a pity, hindsight is always 20/20 and it's always easier after the incident to look back and say -- 'if we did this we could have done that,' but in reality if the rain hadn't caught Ryan at the time when he was ready to load up and go, I think he would have improved his position. On a positive note, the cars are not too far away and I think we are looking good for the race."
