1999 Miller Lite 225 Weekend, Milwaukee, WI Notes from Thursday's Test Session at the Milwaukee Mile:
Anthony Lazzaro, in the #25 PPI-MCI WorldCom Swift, was fastest in the morning session with a time of 25.156 sec., followed by Sam Hornish, Jr., in the #13 Michael Shank Racing-Advantage Power Coating/Hornish Bros. Swift, with a time of 25.267 sec.
Lazzaro's PPI teammate, Andrew Bordin, was third fast in the morning session at 25.310 sec. Nicolas Rondet of World Speed Motorsport was fourth at 25.568 sec. David Rutledge of Forsythe was fifth at 25.578.
In the two-hour afternoon session, 15 of the 18 Atlantic cars on course ran within 8/10ths of a second, with Lazzaro once again topping all competitors with a time of 25.106 sec. Kenny Wilden and Alex Tagliani produced fast times late in the session, with Wilden posting a 25.200 and Tagliani coming in with a 25.217 time. The next 12 drivers all were in the 25-second range. In order, they were Andrew Bordin, Buddy Rice, Sam Hornish, Jr., David Rutledge, Nicolas Rondet, Lee Bentham, Mike Conte, David Cutler, Jean-Francois Veilleux, Bob Perona, Alex Gurney, and Masaoki Nagashima.
Near the end of the afternoon session, #78 Rutledge contacted the turn 4 wall, bringing out a yellow flag and damaging the right rear suspension on his Swift. He said he expected the car to be fully repaired by the Friday a.m. practice.
