Downpour derails Patrick in qualifying.

LEXINGTON, OH . . . Team Rahal's Argent Mortgage Company driver Danica Patrick was unable to advance on the grid for Sunday's Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Mid-Ohio due to a heavy downpour. Patrick will start eleventh based on her fast lap of 105.718 mph set on Friday afternoon.

"We had made some real progress with the car today, but the weather just didn't hold," said Patrick. "I was unable to build any heat in the tires and the slick conditions made it impossible to turn a quick lap. Fortunately I am happy with the progress we made in the morning. We can validate the changes in the warm-up and be ready to race tomorrow."

Atlantic points leader A.J. Allmendinger made it four straight pole positions in the Atlantic series with a fast lap of 107.427 mph set on Friday. He will start next to RuSport teammate Aaron Justus on the front row. Allmendinger is looking for his fourth straight win in the Atlantic Championship. He leads second place Ryan Dalziel by 34 points.

Patrick enters Sunday's Round 9 of the season in seventh place in the championship, one point behind sixth place Joey Hand.

Sunday's race will be seen on a one-hour tape delay on SPEED starting at 12:30 pm EDT.
