MICHAEL TODD DAVID RUNS FASTEST RALT TO FINISH 14TH AT MID-OHIO

LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 9, 1998) - Michael Todd David and the PDR-Water Joe Racing Team put together one of their finest race efforts of the year in round nine of the 13-race KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Sunday, Aug. 9, to finish 14th, and claim honors as the highest finishing Ralt.

David, who started 19th in the PDR/Water Joe/Autodesk Ralt RT-41, began making moves through the 27-car field on the first lap of the 25-lap race when he passed two cars. David passed another on lap two and continued to pass slower cars to improve to 12th place by lap seven. On lap eight, another driver retiring early from the race moved David into 11th place.

Much of his success around the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road circuit was his ability to fend off challengers through crucial turns and the straight-away speed his PDR-prepared Water Joe/Autodesk Ralt RT-41 was able to generate against many of the faster series-endorsed Swift 008.a spec cars.

"The motor had a lot of power," said David. "Arnie (Loyning) did a great job. I was able to run with the Swifts on the straight-aways but they would catch me through turns six and seven. I think I would have been able to hold them off for the entire race but I made a few mistakes in the Carousel turn and that allowed a couple of cars to pass. The Water Joe/Autodesk car was well tuned and I had outstanding handling through most of the track. This allowed me to be more precise and hold my lines."

David held 11th place until lap 14 when the quicker Swift of Derek Hill narrowly, but successfully, found a passing hole. David held his ground again for the next eight laps before two other Swifts passed for position on the final three laps.

David earned two championship points to position him 14th in the driver standings with 32 points. He also collected $1,600 in purse money.

The next stop for the PDR Enterprises/Water Joe-Autodesk Racing team in the 1998 KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship will be round 10 of the 13-race KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship from Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis., Sunday, Aug. 16.

Round nine from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will be shown on ESPN2 Saturday, August 15, from 3:30 p.m. to 4: 30 p.m. ET (12:30-1:30 p.m. PT).
