Leading into Friday's opening qualifying session on the streets of Miami, Joey Hand felt pretty good about his chances to land in the top three when provisional qualifying was complete. Although the times improved from the morning practice session, it was not enough to pull Hand toward the top of the standings.

Hands time of 49.030 seconds (84.438 mph) was seventh quickest in the session and will now force the DSTP team to hunker down tonight to find the speed they need for tomorrow. Ryan Dalziel led provisional qualifying with a time of 47.895 seconds (86.439 mph).

The DSTP team will get to see if they found the speed when the Atlantic machines take back to the track bright and early tomorrow morning for a 30-minute practice session at 8:00 a.m. EST. Final qualifying will take place later on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EST.

Hand on Friday Qualifying:

"That really did not turn out how we thought it would. The car seemed pretty good, but I did not have enough grip compared to some other guys out there. The track feels slick to me, but I know it is not because some of the other guys seemed glued to the track in the corners. The DSTP boys will probably put in a late one tonight and try to figure this out. I hopefully will have a new saddle tomorrow to make a run at them."
