Lynx Racing driver Sara Senske, one of the premier female open-wheel racers in the sport, will have an added advantage on track -- and in the truck -- during this weekend's Barber Dodge Pro Series support race at the Molson Indy Vancouver. That advantage will take the form of fellow Lynx driver David Rutledge on the radio while she's on track, and at her side between sessions helping interpret computer data and working with her on car setup. Rutledge, a Vancouver native, is in his third year of CART Toyota Atlantic competition and, although the Atlantics will not compete at Vancouver this year (having been replaced by Indy Lights in tribute to Greg Moore), the technical aspects of how to set the car up and drive the 15-turn, 1.802-mile temporary road course are ingrained in his memory. "I'll be flying under an experience eye this weekend," says Senske, who drives the #19 Lynx Racing Reynard 98E. "This is a real advantage for me because this is my first visit to the track as a driver and having David here provides me with both technical and psychological support. He's already racing for the Lynx Atlantic team, which is my goal, so I'll be listening closely to not only what he says but how he says it. This weekend is going to be intensely competitive and effective communication with those who can help you is critical to doing well." Rutledge, as the next young Vancouver driver on his way to the top ranks of auto racing, will be busy practically every waking moment even though he's not driving. In addition to his work with Senske at the track, he has a full slate of interviews, commentary and sponsor and charity appearances. "This will be a strange experience for me, to be at a race without driving, but they say that you never know a subject so well as when you teach it and I'm looking forward to the learning experience of helping Sara put in her best possible performance this weekend," says Rutledge. "The Vancouver Molson Indy weekend always has a special mystique for me both because it's my home town and because everybody in town is so into the race. It would be a great place for Lynx to shine, and I'm going to do my very best to make sure it does." The entire Lynx driving squad, including Senske, Rutledge and his Atlantic teammate Mike Conte, will be in action on the following weekend in the Grand Prix of Monterey at the fabled Laguna Seca Raceway on September 8 - 10.
