Charles Hall and Transnet Racing Ready for First Challenge in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Cal. (April 04, 2006) -- British racing driver, Charles Hall (No. 16 Accent Cards International/OmniSource), will take the streets of Long Beach, California in the #16 Accent International Pre-paid Debit Card/OmniSource Corporation/Dixien LLC Swift 016.a, for the 32nd annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday April 9, 2006. The season-opener for the "Champ Car Atlantic Championship" powered by Mazda and presented by Yokohama will mark Hall's debut in the series and the return of Transnet Racing to the Atlantic's paddock.
"I am very happy with the way things are going," said Hall. "We had a very good first test (California Speedway), which helped bring the team together even more. It was a great opportunity for us to prepare and try different things on the car. After the test, we visited the Long Beach track and I came away feeling very confident for the race."
"It will be an important event for me, and for the team," added the former Fran-Am Winter Champion. "I have heard that this will be one of the biggest weekends for the fans. Long Beach is a beautiful city, filled with excitement on and off the track. It's exciting to be part of the action at such a great event."
Alex Garcia, Transnet Team Owner and Manager and a driver in the Atlantic Series until two years ago, will have one car on the Atlantic grid for the Long Beach race and will bring onboard Australian Barton Mawer to drive the #17 car starting in the next round of the Championship on the streets of Houston.
"I am looking forward to the beginning of the Championship and going back to Long Beach after having competed there myself in the past as a driver," expressed Garcia. "The team had a productive first test outing at Fontana and I am confident about Long Beach. We are very excited about the season since it will be one of the most competitive of all times. We are very happy to be back competing in this great Series and I feel confident that with Charles already, and later also with Bart, our race cars are going to be extremely competitive."
