Sciuto to start fourth, Cameron twelfth in Imperial Capital Bank Atlantic Challenge

April 19, 2008 (Long Beach, Calif.) -- The hometown boy made good during Saturday's Atlantic qualifying session as Alan Sciuto, from nearby Orange, Calif., put his #17 Deans Ultra Plug Mazda/Swift firmly at the front of the field for Sunday's Atlantic Championship race through the streets of Long Beach.

In a hectic session that saw numerous different names at the front of the timesheet, Sciuto laid down a flyer with two minutes remaining in the session that vaulted him to the second row of the field. Sciuto is looking for redemption for last year's race in Long Beach, when a fourth-place qualifying effort went no further than the wall exiting turn one as he was squeezed wide in the chaos of the first corner.

His teammate, 2007 Star Mazda champion Dane Cameron, struggled with his #19 Mazdaspeed Mazda/Swift as the weather turned warm during the afternoon's practice session, ending in a disappointing 11th place. The Atlantic Rookie of the Year candidate looked like a candidate for a top five starting position, but slipped back in the standings as several other drivers found speed at the end of the qualifying session.

"We had struggled earlier in the weekend, but the team kept at it and they have put together a really good car. We're continuing the momentum that we started in pre-season testing, and even though we weren't where we wanted to be earlier this weekend, we were able to work towards this fourth place.

"I'm definitely looking to stay out of trouble and bring this one home. I'd like to have a good result for all of my family and friends that have been supporting me all weekend."

"We're definitely a bit disappointed after our form in the two practice sessions. We are fast in the morning practices, but we seem to be losing a little bit of speed in the heat of the day. We are making improvements and gains, and we'll be aiming to stay out of trouble at the start tomorrow. We'll stay clean and hopefully be able to move up a few spots.

"This is one of the better street courses. The surface isn't too bad and the layout is pretty tricky -- it has a broad spectrum of corners, from fast ones to the tight hairpin. It isn't full of the typical 90 degree corners. This is a pretty fun racetrack."
