Positive Day for Walker Racing
Las Vegas, NV (April 6, 2007)- It was a positive day for Walker Racing as they made their charge on the streets of downtown Las Vegas. Adapting quickly to the Atlantic car, Swiss rookie, Simona De Silvestro, proved her talent rapidly as she made her presence known on the 2.44 mile street course. Clocking a fast lap time of 1:33.298, the Swiss Miss unfortunately got caught in traffic putting her in ninth position for the first day of qualifying. Stay tuned as the team takes part in the official Atlantic practice at 8:00 a.m. PST. For more updates on the team please visit www.walkerracing.com <http://www.walkerracing.com/>
What they had to say...
Simona De Silvestro: "Today was a really good day. Unfortunately I got caught in traffic a little bit, it could have been much, much better. The track was a lot better this afternoon compared to this morning, because it had more grip, which made it a lot better for braking. The car is really good and we are fast and consistent, everyone has done a great job, I can't wait for tomorrow."
Derrick Walker, Walker Racing owner: "For Simona's first Atlantic practice and qualifying, she did really well. The car was really good and she was able to get some great times out of it. Considering this is a first for her, she did some really good stuff today, I'm very proud of her. The traffic was the big problem of the day, getting a clear race track, but once she got a clear track she had a good lap time and I have no doubt that she could have been a top four qualifier if she had gotten the clean track when she needed to. At least we know the car is good and she is adapting to Atlantics really well, so we are very pleased with how she did.
An additional note on Ryan, we have really come out of the starting blocks with a really good car. It's unfortunate that Ryan is not here to take the benefit of it. He will be back in Long Beach and he will get back in the car and pick up where he left off. Good news is we are still making some gains so when he gets here we will have a good car for him."
